How to Find Your Honda Model ?

There are two main ways to accurately identify your model, ensuring you select the exact references that match your vehicle and minimize the risk of ordering errors.

Indeed, there are many variations—and therefore different parts—of the same model depending on the year and country of manufacture, so the risk of error is quite high. Below, we’ll detail the method to follow to avoid any complications.

Note: During your search, you may come across a year that differs from the one listed on your vehicle registration document. This is because the year of first registration is not necessarily the same as the year of manufacture. Some vehicles may remain in stock for one or two years before being sold and registered for the first time, which can explain this discrepancy.

Searching by Model Code

The model code is the manufacturing number for Honda vehicles. It contains all the specific information about your vehicle (model, year, trim level).

You can easily find it on a white label, most often located under the seat or under the fuel cap of your vehicle. It is usually accompanied by the color code.

Examples of label locations:
  • On a 2014 Honda Gold Wing 1800, the model code label is located under the fuel cap.
Here, the model code is GL1800E :

  • On a 2015 Honda Forza 125 ABS, you can find the model code label in the storage compartment under the seat, as with most scooters.
Here, the model code is NSS125ADF :

  • The location of the model code label on a 2016 Honda CBR500R ABS is more discreet—it is located under the seat.
Here, the model code is CBR500RAG :

Once you’ve located your vehicle’s model code, you can enter it in the Search by keywords tab, which you’ll find on the search bar at the top of each page.

In the last example, with the code CBR500RAG, here’s the result obtained when searching via this tab :

You can then select your motorcycle from the list to access the microfiches and place your order without risking any mistakes.

Searching by Serial Number (VIN or Chassis Number)

More precise with the manufacturer (the serial number is unique to each vehicle, allowing you to identify one specific vehicle among all others, including its exact color), but more complex to use, searching by serial number is the second method that allows you to identify your vehicle with 100% accuracy.

Depending of the country of origin, you can find your vehicle’s serial number listed under section E of your vehicule registration document.
Note: If it has fewer than 17 characters (for models predating 1996 or rare exceptions based on other criteria), you’ll also need to note the D.2 entry on your certificate.

Decoding a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

The VIN is composed of three main parts:

  • WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier): Indicates the manufacturer"s geographic region, the country where the vehicle was made, and the manufacturer code or vehicle type.
  • VDS (Vehicle Descriptor Section): Specifies the engine type, body style, model, and trim level.
  • VIS (Vehicle Identifier Section): Provides information about the vehicle"s production year, assembly plant, and serial number. The 10th character identifies the model year, and the 11th character indicates the manufacturing plant.

Example below :

Disclaimer: Please note that this document may not exist in your country of origin. In this case, please use the model code as a reference.

On older vehicule registration certificates, the E section might be replaced by the letter G, where it states "No. in the type series", and the D.2 section corresponds to the "Type" box located just above.

If your vehicle is not originally approved and you do not have a vehicule registration certificate, or if you obtained it later, you can find the necessary identification information for your motorcycle, quad, or scooter directly on the chassis.

Once you have found the VIN on your registration document or chassis, enter it in the search bar : Search by Chassis Number/VIN to find the exact model of your motorcycle.

For example, with a 17-character serial number for a CBR 300:

For older serial numbers with fewer than 17 characters (mainly models before 1996), you should enter in the search field: Type(D.2)-Serial Number(E)

For example: CB750-000000 for a 1976s CB 750 Four (don’t forget to include a hyphen or space between the two, otherwise it won’t work), as shown below:

If the methods described above do not work, keep in mind that serial numbers are unique, and their characters are not random. For instance, you can determine the year of your vehicle simply by analyzing your VIN.

Finding Your Vehicle’s Year in Its Serial Number :

To verify the exact year of your motorcycle, you can also check the 10th character of your vehicle’s serial number (VIN) and refer to the corresponding table below:

If you have any doubts, the most precise and effective method for identifying your vehicle remains searching by serial number.
